AIM Active Inverted Magnetron Gauge

Overview

The Edwards Active Inverted Magnetron Gauges (AIM) combine the gauge-head and controller in one compact Active unit. These gauges have proved to be rugged and reliable in a wide range of applications ranging from scientific instruments to industrial processes.

The AIM-X Gauge is an inverted magnetron gauge head and gauge controller combined into a single compact unit, and features a linear output for easy integration with a computer or PLC.

The XL variants have a very low external magnetic field, these are ideally suitable for use with sensitive analytical instruments or in applications where the gauge needs to be mounted in close proximity to a turbomolecular pump.

Technology

The AIM Gauge is an inverted magnetron gauge head and gauge controller in a single compact unit. The gauge operates as a cold cathode ionisation gauge, in which pressure is measured indirectly as a function of the current that flows in a Townsend discharge maintained in the body tube.

The measurement range of the AIM Gauge is 1 x 10-8 to 1 x 10-2 mbar.

The AIM Gauge requires a 13.5 to 36 V d.c. power supply: it has a 2 to 10 V d.c. analogue output which is related to pressure.

The AIM Gauge is compatible with all of Edwards Active Gauge Controllers and with the appropriate versions of the Active Gauge Displays. Alternatively you can use an independent power supply for the AIM Gauge and you can read the AIM Gauge output signal with a voltmeter or an analogue-to-digital converter.

Features and Benefits

• Drive electronics combined in the gauge head which reduces the system cost and saves valuable rack space
• Low output impedance and integral Faraday shield provides high level of noise immunity and permits long cable runs (up to 100 m)
• Low magnetic field version - XL - for sensitive applications, e.g. mass spectrometry and electron microscopy.
• Interchangeable body tube allows for rapid tube replacement without pre-calibration
• CSA, CSA/US approved - meets safety requirements for electrical equipment for measurement

Applications

All vacuum applications requiring rugged and reliable pressure indication in the range 1 x 10-2 to 1 x 10-8 mbar. Typical processes range from general vacuum through industrial coaters and furnaces to scientific instruments and semicon.
